I'm a professional concept artist and sculptor with fifteen years of experience in creature concept design and art direction for film, TV, theatre and advertising. Middlesex University was where I gained a BA hons in graphic design and it was there that I established my passion for illustration, 3D modelling and animation.
For a few years after graduating I worked as a freelance illustrator but really felt I'd found home when I started working at Jim Henson's Creature Shop, London in 1996. I started out as a painter and sculptor and moved quickly into the design dept. In 2000 I was made Head of Design and then worked on many projects as Creative Supervisor (Client liaison and project management from concept to 3D completion for post production and in camera effects) until The Creature Shop sadly closed in 2005.
Since then I have continued my work on a freelance basis: In 2006 I was employed as Supervising art director of creatures on 'The Nutcracker 3D' and have been involved from early concept stage on many other film and theatre projects, some of which are still in ongoing development.
I have designed for all aspects of creature special effects, in the Physical and CGI realms: including puppets, animatronics, walk about costumes, make up and prosthetic design, environments, costume, props and vehicles. I enjoy designing for all worlds from cute, realistic, anthropomorphic, horrific to science fiction and fantasy.
Alongside my creature work I have also created production style concept illustrations, storyboards, books and posters for the promotion and pitching of films, commercials and theatre projects.
I also work as a sculptor and painter in the fine art world and also produce concepts and visuals for Interior design projects.
